To help reward good drivers and make communities across the province of Ontario (Canada) safer, ICMIF member Wawanesa has launched a unique mobile phone based telematics application, called Drive Change. While there are several telematics programmes currently available in Ontario, Wawanesa says its new Drive Change programme provides discounts for safe driving and rewards points that specifically encourage Wawanesa members to drive without cell phone distractions.

“Our Drive Change app is all about member safety and affordability,” said Wawanesa’s SVP and Chief Operations Officer – East, Anna McCrindell. “We want to help our members become more aware of their driving habits and incentivise them to be safer, so everyone in our communities can enjoy safer streets.”

Drive Change is an optional, continuous monitoring, usage-based insurance programme that collects information on driving behaviour through a smartphone application. It is now available across Ontario for Private Personal Auto. Drive Change launches into the Ontario market with immediate and ongoing incentives for safe driving, such as:

  • Automatic 10% discount;
  • On renewal, discounts of up to 25% based on driving behaviour;
  • Reward points for not using their phone while operating their vehicle, with points redeemable for gift cards at a variety of retailers;
  • Prior telematics discounts from other carriers of up to 20% may be available (conditions apply, speak to a broker for more information);
  • Automatic discount on related Homeowners or Condominium Owners’ policy when a member is also enrolled in Drive Change; and
  • No extra charges or penalties associated with the Drive Change programme.

“Drive Change is the first programme of its kind to honour prior carrier discounts and reward safe driving through a points system, in addition to the potential premium savings,” said Wawanesa’s SVP & Chief Insurance and Technology Officer, Tracy Riley. “As a mutual insurance company, it was important to us to make sure we were bringing meaningful cost savings to our members, as well as improving the safety and wellbeing of our broader communities.”

Wawanesa’s Drive Change app is now available across Ontario through Wawanesa’s wide network of independent insurance brokers. To find out more, visit Wawanesa’s Drive Change website here.
