ICMIF member La Segunda Seguros (Argentina), has been recognised at the 2024 Argentinian Circular Economy Awards for its innovative “Second Life” programme. This achievement highlights La Segunda’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and its leadership in the circular economy among 180 competing projects nationwide.

The Argentina Circular Economy Awards celebrate outstanding circular economy projects that provide environmental and social benefits to communities, companies and ecosystems. Organised by the Federal SME Observatory Foundation, the Just Transition Group and the Regenerate Foundation, the awards honour initiatives that help drive a sustainable transition for Argentina.

La Segunda Seguros’ “Second Life” programme exemplifies this commitment. Developed by the company’s sustainability team, the initiative focuses on social inclusion and the reuse of materials to create backpacks and bags from recycled promotional items. Once produced, these bags are distributed to Argentina’s most vulnerable communities, continuing the circular economy cycle and reinforcing the company’s social mission.

Ana Urreaga, a member of La Segunda’s sustainability team, emphasised the importance of circular practices in building a sustainable future. “Circularity is a key practice in the new economy that our organisation must adopt to anticipate the world to come,” Urreaga stated. “As social actors, we must promote this model in collaboration with the public and private sectors to generate a positive impact, not only on the environment but also on people, fostering productive and resilient economies.”

The “Second Life” programme aligns closely with La Segunda’s Environmental Policy and the values of the cooperative movement. By prioritising circular economy principles, waste revaluation and community impact, La Segunda reinforces its dedication to building a more sustainable and inclusive economy.
