ICMIF Sustainability Summit 2023
Royal London (UK), Wawanesa (Canada), and Aviva Investors each demonstrate a unique but unified approach towards sustainability and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. Royal London’s strategy, structured on three pillars, focuses on responsible investment, climate change, and stakeholder engagement, aiming to improve living standards for current and future generations. Wawanesa, traditionally centred on community benefits, has integrated sustainability into its business model, emphasising climate resilience, environmental stewardship, and diversity, achieving milestones like aligning with the UNEP FI Principles for Sustainable Insurance. Aviva Investors underscores the significance of clear, long-term sustainability objectives, particularly the need for strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and a balance between immediate business needs and long-term environmental commitments. Together, these strategies illustrate a growing trend in the insurance sector towards comprehensive and adaptive sustainability initiatives.
