ICMIF Supporting Member AM Best will host its annual Europe Insurance Market and Methodology Briefings in London on Thursday 7 November 2024. The event, which is free to attend, will bring together key industry figures to discuss trends and developments in the insurance market. The briefings will take place at etc.venues St Paul’s from 08.30 to 16.30 GMT.

This year’s programme will open with a keynote address by Paul Brand, Group Chief Executive, Convex Insurance (United Kingdom), who will share his insights on the future of the insurance sector in a session titled, “Beyond the Numbers – A Carrier’s View.” Following the keynote, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in discussions on pressing issues such as technology, risk, and market changes affecting the European insurance market.

A focus on technology and emerging risks

Key sessions will focus on how emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), are transforming underwriting and claims processes. Experts including Dimitrios Zampetas, Expert Advisor, Strategy and Corporate Development, Atradius (Netherlands); Gabriella Engstrand, Head of Distribution, Europe, Accelerant (United Kingdom); and Frank Schmid, Chief Technology Officer, Gen Re (United States), will explore these developments alongside other industry professionals.

The event will also address the impact of climate-related litigation, new liability risks such as forever chemicals, and the increased complexity of managing casualty catastrophes. Additionally, the agenda includes an analysis of the global reinsurance market and AM Best’s outlook for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.

Methodology Briefing to follow market sessions

In the afternoon, AM Best will conduct its Methodology Briefing, from 14.15 to 16.30, covering topics such as benchmarking EMEA insurers and the ongoing effects of the IFRS 17 accounting standard. The session will also highlight how AM Best incorporates cyber risks into its credit rating methodology and the importance of stress testing for potential natural and man-made catastrophes.

The event will conclude with a Q&A session, providing attendees with the chance to interact with AM Best analysts and industry leaders on critical issues.

Networking and innovation opportunities

The event will offer several networking opportunities, including a lunch following the morning sessions. Attendees will also be able to visit an innovation exhibition, organised in collaboration with Lloyd’s Lab, which will showcase cutting-edge insurance technologies.
