ICMIF member CoopSeguros (Dominican Republic) has this week signed an agreement to collaborate with the National Confederation of Agricultural Producers (Confederación Nacional de Productores Agropecuarios, Confenagro) which aims to provide insurance products that will directly benefit those working in the agriculture sector – both producers and workers.
The agreement between the cooperative insurer and the National Confederation of Agricultural Producers will deliver a mutual work plan which will include an extensive educational programme on the benefits of insurance aimed at agricultural workers and producers. CoopSeguros will deliver the training workshops.
The agreement was signed by the President of Confenagro, Eric Rivero, and the President of CoopSeguros, Manuel Gutiérrez, during a meeting held at the Confenagro headquarters.
Rivero stressed that the new agreement meant that from now on “we are going to work so that we all feel that behind our effort there is support, support from an institution like CoopSeguros, which will preserve the interests of the country and the Dominican people.”
Rivero said that the signing of the agreement represents a step forward for the agricultural sector. “The task is to raise awareness amongst agricultural producers, so that the entire sector engages with and uses the services of the insurer”.
Meanwhile, Gutiérrez stressed that CoopSeguros has a strong commitment to the agricultural sector and announced that the signing of the agreement will contribute to the safety of national producers and workers and give them peace of mind thanks to having insurance cover in the future.
“This will give the people of the Dominican Republic great strength because we are talking about production at a national level, which should provide enough to meet the demand of the population, without necessarily having to incur food imports,” Gutiérrez said.
Ruth Soto, General Manager of CoopSeguros and others from the insurer attended the signing as did Hecmilio Galván, Executive Vice President and Pedro Musa, Director of Public Relations for Confenagro.
