ICMIF Supporting Member Guy Carpenter has launched a new podcast series, Fo[RE]sight. Guy Carpenter’s goal for this series is to bring to listeners unmatched insights on trending challenges and solutions, delivered by specialists from Guy Carpenter and other organisations on the forefront of thought leadership developments in the reinsurance industry.
The first two episodes (which ICMIF members can access via the links below) look at the influence and impact of climate change on physical risk and insured losses.
Episode 1: Evolving physical risk landscape
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change sixth assessment report or the IPCC AR6 provides more accurate and longer-range data than ever before. What does it all mean? The projections are reducing uncertainty and generating confidence in the conclusions, but strong regional differences mean effects can vary significantly across the world. Determining how shifting, large-scale averages affect local events matters greatly in predicting societal impacts and insured losses. What can we do to prepare and focus on the impact without getting lost in noise? In this premiere episode of Fo[RE]sight, Guy Carpenter experts Kieran Bhatia, Vice-President, Climage Change Perils Advisory, and Sam Phibbs, Vice President, Catastrophe Advisory, share their insights into this multi-layered issue.
Episode 2: Is climate change to blame for increasing losses?
The global insurance marketplace is experiencing a multiyear period of elevated insured losses. The shifting loss profile is seeing an elevated baseline influenced by a changing climate. However, evidence indicates that climate is only one factor in play. Catastrophe model usage, secondary perils, population demographics, evolution of built infrastructure, changes in the construction industry and inflation are also growing concerns. What can we do to ensure we take a holistic view of the risk environment? In this episode of Fo[RE]sight, Guy Carpenter experts Josh Darr, Managing Director, Head of North America Peril Advisory, and Jessica Turner, Managing Director, Catastrophe Advisory, share their insights on this multifaceted issue.
