ICMIF announces USD 236 billion in members’ premium income: latest Key Statistics 2023 report published

The latest ICMIF Members: Key Statistics report from the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF), compiled using data taken from members’ most recent financial reports, has confirmed aggregate totals of USD 236 billion in premium income and USD 1.7 trillion in total assets held across the membership in 2022.

According to the new ICMIF Members: Key Statistics report, over 230,000 people were employed by ICMIF member companies in 2022, helping to serve over 321 members/policyholders globally.

The report provides both financial and non-financial analyses of the 207 members that make up ICMIF today, looking at types of insurance offered (including specific product lines), total premiums written, assets held, and more.

Key findings:

  • USD 236 billion in premium income

  • 321 million members/policyholders served

In 2022, ICMIF members wrote an aggregate of USD 236 billion in insurance premiums, of which 43% (USD 102 billion) was in life insurance and 57% (USD 134 billion) was in non-life (including health) insurance.

Shaun Tarbuck, Chief Executive of ICMIF, said: “We are happy to release the findings from the latest ICMIF Members: Key Statistics report, aggregating the performance of our growing ICMIF membership, of whom the majority once again outperformed the annual growth of their respective national markets.

“Collectively, we will continue to create a better protected, more resilient world in 2024,” Tarbuck concluded.

Also included in this report is analysis of ICMIF members based on legal structure, location, and affinity group, as well as a full ranking of the ICMIF membership by premium income in 2022.
