The 24th Meeting of Reinsurance Officials (MORO) is a unique, global gathering of reinsurance professionals from the mutual and cooperative sector that meets every two years. This conference is an outstanding opportunity for ICMIF members to learn from leading reinsurance professionals as well as share reinsurance knowledge and discuss issues of common interest with other ICMIF members from around the world in a collaborative and supportive environment. The three day event will take place on 23-25 April 2018 in Montreal (Canada) and will include high level presentations, discussion panels and one-to-one meetings, with a unique focus on how reinsurance issues affect mutual and cooperative insurers.
The agenda for the MORO is now available online.
One of the keynote speakers for the MORO is Glenn McGillivray, Managing Director of the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR). Glenn will present an overview of the catastrophic loss landscape in a session on Managing risk in an uncertain world: Learning from catastrophes. In his presentation, Global change and catastrophic loss, Glenn will speak about the increasing challenges faced by various stakeholders in managing risks associated with rising number of severe weather and seismic events. He will share his insights into what can be expected through the next decade in terms of disaster loss claims and prevention.
In addition to external expert speakers the agenda features a number of reinsurance professionals from ICMIF member companies who will share their reinsurance knowledge as well as sharing some of their challenges and success stories. Many of these speakers have now been confirmed and are listed on the MORO website.
ICMIF recently spoke to Greg Lockard, Director of Reinsurance Operations, Shelter (US) and Chair of the ICMIF Reinsurance Committee about why he always makes time for the MORO in his already busy diary. Greg told us: “There is no shortage of invitations to industry events that flood my inbox on an almost-daily basis and I always have a hard time balancing my time with a return on investment… But the MORO offers a very unique, specific programme centred around reinsurance which, among other things, fosters a collaborative approach among members to share what they are doing and potentially match up the needs of some members with those members than can offer solutions.”

2016 Highlights
Our 2016 MORO highlights video shares the feedback from delegates and ICMIF members on the advantages of attending the event.
Almost 80% of member organisations attending the 2016 MORO in London were returning for a second if not a third time. Delegates at previous events have described the MORO as an ideal opportunity for ICMIF members to learn, share information, build relationships and do business with each other.
