ICMIF member, Onderlinge s’-Gravenhage (Netherlands), takes pride in being a customer-centric insurance company, particularly catering to those over the age of 50. In line with its commitment to inclusivity, it recently announced that its website is now digitally accessible to everyone.
In December last year, the Dutch mutual life insurer launched its newly revamped website. While focusing on enhancing its user-friendliness and visual appeal, the primary goal was to ensure that it is accessible to all, including individuals with visual, auditory, and motor impairments. Accessibility is not just an added feature for the organisation—it is a fundamental principle that aligns with its dedication to serving all customers.
Meeting WCAG standards ahead of 2025 regulations
Looking forward to upcoming European regulations, which will make digital accessibility mandatory for all essential service providers by June 2025, Onderlinge s’-Gravenhage was proud to share that it is already fully compliant. The new regulations, based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), will require websites and apps across Europe to be accessible to everyone, including the 1.5 million hearing-impaired, 3 million visually impaired, 3.4 million motor-impaired, and 2.5 million low-literacy individuals in the Netherlands alone.
To ensure that its website met these standards, the organisation collaborated closely with Digitaal Bereikbaar (DT), a leading research and training agency in digital accessibility. Thanks to this partnership, the website now boasts a 100% WCAG score, achieving compliance with all 50 success criteria outlined in the WCAG 2.1 level A & AA standards. This accomplishment grants the website the prestigious AA status, making the organisation one of the leading insurers in the Netherlands to meet these rigorous requirements ahead of the deadline.
Ongoing commitment to digital accessibility
Achieving a 100% WCAG score is not the end of the journey; it is a commitment to continuous improvement, with a promise to regularly monitor and update the website to ensure it remains accessible and compliant with any future developments in digital accessibility standards.
Onderlinge s’-Gravenhage believes that everyone should be able to access its services online without any barriers. The organisation’s efforts to make its website digitally accessible underscore its dedication to inclusivity and customer satisfaction, setting a standard in the insurance industry as we move towards a more accessible digital future.
