Australian ICMIF member RAC is currently offering its member policyholders the chance to take part in a ground-breaking trial, which is giving locals from across Western Australia (WA) the chance to test drive an electric vehicle (EV), for an entire week.
RAC’s EV for a Week trial is providing 50 members with the opportunity to take home a fully electric Polestar 2 and experience life with an EV – from learning to use the state-of-the-art technology, to using electric charging stations.
RAC General Manager External Relations Will Golsby said the trial will help participants understand EV technology and support their transition to low and zero emission vehicles.
“Our members have told us the main barriers for EV uptake are the increased cost, lack of options on the market, and concerns about the availability of charging infrastructure around WA,” said Golsby.
“With this trial, we can help participants better understand the realities of driving electric vehicles, and hopefully, consider an EV for their next vehicle,” Golsby continued. “Their feedback from the trial will form a crucial part of our advocacy to increase EV uptake, as well as its supporting infrastructure.”
“Getting more low and zero emissions vehicles onto our roads is one of the main ways we can reduce the impact of air pollution, much of which is caused by cars, trucks and motorbikes in our urban areas,” he concluded.
Participants have collectively clocked-up more than 14,000 kilometres in the EVs, since the trial began in mid-December.
RAC member Lizzie Scott was one of the first to complete the trial, and her experiences were overwhelmingly positive.
“Everywhere I went, heads turned, and questions were asked,” said Ms Scott. “It was an exciting and educational experience, and I was really impressed with how comfortable and easy the car was to drive, and how little it cost to keep it on the road.”
The trial is due to end in mid-2023. Learn more about the trial and read the member diaries here.
