An international seminar entitled “Technological solutions to boost the development of inclusive insurance” was held in December last year in the city of La Paz (Bolivia). It was attended by around 100 representatives of public and private entities including insurance industry leaders, insurance brokers, marketers, and financial institutions. Belén Gómez, Assistant to the Executive President at ICMIF member Río Uruguay Seguros (RUS) and Coordinator of the RUS Corporate University (U-RUS), was invited to present on the achievements of the cooperative insurer’s “Insurance for Equity” programme.
“Microinsurance products are not just a business opportunity, they are a corporate responsibility,” said Belén Gómez in her presentation on the “Insurance for Equity” programme. The programme includes the RUS Salud Fem product, an insurance cover for conditions associated with the female gender with the same objective of guaranteeing access to comprehensive health cover for everyone, and the RUS Salud Trans products, insurance cover that gives access to comprehensive health services for transgender people in Argentina. Gómez also spoke about the Inclusive Insurance Shops programme which was launched one year ago by the cooperative insurer together with Estacubierto that promotes social and labour inclusion through insurance.
During the event, speakers from Bolivia, Mexico, Colombia, the United States and Argentina explained their approach and experience with microinsurance and inclusive insurance.
The international seminar was organised by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation; the PROFIN Foundation; the Microinsurance Network (MiN); the Pension and Insurance Supervisory and Control Authority (APS); the Bolivian Association of Insurers (ABA); and the Bolivian Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Brokers (ABOCOSER).
