ICMIF member Seguros Unimed (Brazil) has announced a partnership with Uber Health that will allow the insurer to hire transport for its member policyholders to be taken to hospitals, clinics and laboratories in non-emergency situations, via the Uber platform, which should contribute to access to and the quality of the healthcare services offered to policyholders.
This type of logistical support for non-emergency medical transport ensures that policyholders can travel safely and comfortably to appointments, exams and procedures in regions without an accredited network, or in cases where special care is needed for people with reduced mobility or who need to be accompanied by carers.
As well as simplifying and speeding up the entire transport process, Seguros Unimed says the partnership with Uber Health will also contribute to more efficient internal management of this entire flow, which will be internalised by the insurer’s Relationship Centre. “We’re going to internalise logistical support with 100% in-house management, which will generate cost savings, improved processes, as well as agility and quality in monitoring customer service,” says Alex Rocha, Superintendent of Client Management at Seguros Unimed.
Launched in 2018 in the United States, Uber Health is now officially operating in Brazil, supporting the healthcare sector there. The platform aims to facilitate the intermediation of patient and healthcare professional transport, using the same technology that drives Uber’s other service modalities. Seguros Unimed is one of the first partners in the country.
Seguros Unimed is the insurance group and financial arm of the Unimed medical cooperative system, present across 90% of the national territory of Brazil. With a 34-year history in the market, the company serves six million policyholders in the health, dental, life, pension (open and closed) and property and casualty segments (with property and medical liability insurance). Since 2019, it has also been active in the management of financial resources for the cooperative system, with the creation of InvestCoop Asset Management.
