Experts at Clusit, the Italian association for Cyber Security, have confirmed in a recent report that “there has been a real epochal change in the global levels of cyber-insecurity and increase in the numbers, severity and quality of cyber-attacks” in the last four years. Italy has been confirmed as one of the most affected countries in Europe.

Earlier this year in Italy, there was a large-scale cyber-attack that attacked 22 servers of different institutions or companies by exploiting a vulnerability that had not been resolved by security updates. According to the Computer Security Incident Response Team Italia, the body established at the National Cybersecurity Agency that monitors and intervenes in the event of cyber-attacks in Italy, “dozens of national systems have ended up being targeted by the bad guys”.

In Italy, the number of compromised servers has increased by 58%, with a jump of 35% in cyber-attacks compared to last year. A surge that sees Italian companies victims of what is now called a “cyberpandemic”.

Italian ICMIF member UnipolSai has recognised that cyber-attacks can be particularly serious for businesses: the larger the size of the business, the greater the risks to the amount of data and systems to need to be protected. Because of this, UnipolSai says businesses are often seen as a more attractive target for cybercriminals.

Loss or compromise of customers’ personal data, or other information of a sensitive nature, such as financial information and trade secrets, may have consequences Strict legal and economic for a company. Not to mention the damage image and the possible effects of interrupting production cycles.

UnipolSai has therefore launched a Scudo Cyber Shield product which is designed as the complete answer to protect Italian businesses from cyber-attacks. And, if the protection needs grow, there will be new and more articulated defenses says the insurer.

The UnipolSai Scudo Cyber policy includes:

  • In case of attack computer, compensation for the costs necessary for the replacement or repair of hardware that is no longer usable as a result of the breach; The compensation also covers the costs incurred for reconstruction data and files as well as the costs of forensic investigations
  • Cover for compensation incurred to meet liability arising from breaches of the network’s security postures and violations of the privacy or confidential business information held by the business
  • Compensation is provided for damages suffered by third parties for the interruption of their business resulting from a cyber-attack on the policyholder’s business.
  • If a business is facing a “cyber emergency”? Thanks to the “Prompt Recovery” (La Pronto Ripresa) the intervention of the Cyber Incident Response Team limits or avoids the aggravation of the damage by managing the complex of criticalities. For example: A hotel portal suffers a cyber-attack that causes the cancellation of all online reservations. La Pronto Ripresa will work to promptly restore the network and try to recover all bookings without any disbursement by the accommodation business
  • With the “Legal Protection” guarantee, provided in the UnipolSai Scudo Cyber policy, businesses are protected in case of legal assistance: in the out-of-court phase businesses have a network of lawyers indicated by the Company, while in the judicial phase they can choose their trusted lawyer. There is also a toll-free number with a dedicated consultancy service throughout the year, with which businesses can be updated on the evolution of cybersecurity legislation
