For 70 years, Zenkyoren has been driven by cooperative philosophy of “mutual aid” under the motto “One for all, all for one”. Through its comprehensive insurance products (life, home and auto) and community contribution activities, it aims to build communities where its members and local residents can live in good health and with a sense of security.
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) underpin the business activities of Zenkyoren. Serving the farming community and agricultural cooperatives of the JA (Japan Agricultural Cooperatives) Group, Zenkyoren’s approach to the SDGs involves ensuring the sustainability of local agricultural communities by providing insurance coverage to ensure business and livelihood stability for farmers and engaging in community contribution activities.
This contains four specific goals:
1. Contribute to healthy and productive lifestyles
Current activities related to this goal include coverage of illness, injury and retirement, support for health living through health management, social integration support for traffic accident victims’ rehabilitation and culture assistance for children who will lead the next generation.
2. Realisation of safe and secure local communities
Current activities related to this goal include coverage against natural disasters e.g. earthquakes and typhoon, disaster prevention and reduction activities and disaster relief.
3. Contribute to sustainable agriculture
Current activities related to this goal include provision of insurance coverage to ensure business and livelihood stability of farmers, agricultural work accident prevention activities, sustainable agriculture promotion.
4. Contribution to the global environment
Current activities related to this goal include reducing CO2 emissions, Equivalent Annual Cost (EAC) investments, promotion and support for local production for local consumption, insurance provision and community support activities.
