Grupo Asegurador La Segunda (Argentina) offers non-life, workers’ compensation, transport and pension insurance; and is ranked as the fifth largest insurer in Argentina, with more than two million customers across the country.
Internally, La Segunda is working to embed and promote a culture of innovation. It is applying new methodologies, incorporating emerging technologies and encouraging agility in decision making across the organisation.
It conducts innovations labs for internal and external partners, workshops with customers and runs an internal programme so employees can talk about change, technology and innovation. It also launched THE “HUB”, a new platform to undertake and manage its open innovation efforts.
Externally, it actively connects with the ecosystem of universities, incubators, accelerators, start-ups, and entrepreneurs. In 2018, it hosted the first InsurTech Hackathon in Argentina: “Hack2In”. The Hackathon was not just about designing new products, but rather about transforming old processes and ways of working.
The Hackathon resulted in two concrete outputs. The winner in the InsurTech category was a glove that uses wearable sensor technology to help factory workers detect repetitive movements and helps to prevent long-term stress injuries. Now, La Segunda are producing these gloves to help reduce work hazards for their insureds. Another entry was a biotech firm that produces a prototype used for the early detection for womb and ovarian cancer. Again, La Segunda have partner with this firm to produce these kits and help act for the community.
